Evelyn has been singing all her life. She began recording with her father and three male cousins as a teenager in St. Louis, Missouri. As a young woman, she continued recording with local groups after getting married and moving to Detroit, Michigan. She appeared as a solo artist on major label compilation projects and thusly began her national solo career. She recorded her first national solo project with CGI Records in 1990 and received many awards and nominations including a Stellar Award nomination for Traditional Female Artist and a Lady of Soul nomination. After several years absent from the major gospel music scene, in January, 2000 Evelyn launched a new record project, God Did It, featuring the group she founded in 1972, The Warriors. God Did It was released on Evelyn’s own independent record label, WOS Records. This project established Evelyn as a force to be reckoned with in the gospel music industry. God Did It has been among one of the top requested songs on radio stations throughout the nation and also received major rotation on top syndicated programs including Walt Baby Love’s “Gospel Traxx”, Inspirations Across America, the Russ Parr Show, the Tom Joiner Show, Sheridan Gospel Network’s “The Light”, ABC Radio Network’s “Rejoice”, and Radio One Gospel Network. The full-length album, God Did It, also experienced great success at retail charting on Billboard Magazine’s “Top Gospel Album” charts for over 30 weeks. Gospel media publications and columns such as D. Blackmon’s “Gospel Insider”, Urban Network Magazine, Billboard Magazine’s “Inside the Spirit”, Gospel Today, Gospel Industry Today, Behind the Scene and Urban Network’s “Inspired” magazines have all given recognition to this anointed, talented woman of God and her music ministry. In October, 2002 Evelyn joined the Atlanta International Records (AIR Gospel) family and released the project, It’s Already Done. In March, 2005, after becoming a Light Records artist, the project, Go Through, was released. Hosting her own radio show again, the God Did It Radio Broadcast commenced in November of 2006 after taking several years hiatus from radio broadcasting. This time Evelyn began making plans to host her own television show, and in 2008 she became talk show hostess of “Reel Talk” from Motor City Television Studio. In 2007, Evelyn came full-circle back to her own label, WOS Records, to release her sophomore project, Double Exposure, on that label in 2008. Now, the Queen of Quartet delivers the true essence of gospel music on the soul-stirring set of outstanding songs, "There's Gonna Be A Meeting", on Shanachie Records.
