Fredy Omar formed his Banda in 1997, enlisting the members of Santiago, New Orleans’ most seasoned latin and jazz musicians. Fredy Omar con su Banda expertly performs all manner of dance rhythms (Latin jazz, merengue, salsa, cumbia, mambo, cha cha cha, bolero, and tango) with the result that people within earshot of Fredy’s band, be they expert salsa dancers or not, take notice and start moving to the music.
Fredy Omar con su Banda have performed at many venues both local and far‐flung, including Gulf Coast’s premier casino/resort, Beau Rivage. They have headlined at the House of Blues, Snug Harbor, Mid‐City Rock ‘n Bowl, Tipitinas, the Maple Leaf , Mojitos, BMC among others. They have shared the stage with Tito Puente, Ruben Blades, Eddie Palmieri, Manny Oquendo, Maraca, Los Van Van, Albita, Manolin and Ricardo Lemvo. They have played the NO Jazz and Heritage Festival every year since 1998, earning a "must see" rating for these performances. They have also performed at festivals in Birmingham, AL, Monroe, LA, Chicago, IL, and Madison, WI and they were performed as guests w/ Jimmy Buffet at the Universal Amphitheater in Hollywood, CA.
Fredy Omar con su Banda has performed for events as varied as mayoral inaugurations, benefit concerts, Orthodox Jewish wedding receptions as well as the union of a Sikh woman from India with a Lutheran man from Germany!
Fredy Omar con su Banda were very well received during their two short tours in Europe, the first in the summer of 2011, the second in early 2012.
Fredy Omar con su Banda were included in an episode of the HBO cable television series Treme which aired this past October, 2012 in which they performed two of Fredy’s original compositions. Come out and hear and move your body to Fredy Omar con su Banda!!
