The Young Band Nation Blues Project is the result of a combination of events. Doug Gay started forming teen bands in 2007 with the hope of bringing kids together (and keeping many of them on the right path) through music. Doug has been a professional musician for the past 20 years, performing and touring with many Louisiana artists including Tab Benoit, The Voice of the Wetlands, Anders Osborne, Waylon Thibodeaux, Johnny Sansone, Gal Holiday and The Honky Tonk Revue, and many more. After an extensive touring schedule in 2009-2011 with Tab and other Thunderbird Management Artists, Doug noticed upon visits back to his music school that almost all of his young students had never heard of or listened to our amazing Louisiana Artists. Our music culture is rich and beautiful, and people all over the world treasure it. It is a part of YBN's mission to enlighten Louisiana Youth to the hipness that is Louisiana Music. Thus, the formation of the YBN Blues Project in 2011. Through the YBNBP, our students have gained intimate knowledge of some of Louisiana's current leading artists, as well as artists from the past. In addition to Louisiana Music, the students are allowed to take songs from pop and rock artists and make them their own, adding accordion and changing some of the grooves to signature Louisiana grooves. Music is about exploration of feelings, new musical boundaries, AND THE PAST. Let's keep Louisiana music alive and inspiring young musicians for generations to come! "Thanks to the support of from organizations like the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the students of YBNBP have had some amazing experiences in the short time that they have been learning, performing, and falling in love with Louisiana music. Here's to the mission!" Doug Gay (Founder of Young Band Nation)
